WinSCP is The Favored Free FTP Client -How to See the Site List

When you open WinSCP, the first window you see is the Login dialog. This window displays your sites list—a list of all saved sites or sessions—on the left side of the dialog. Here’s how to access and update a site:

  • To see the sites list: Simply start WinSCP. The list of all your saved sites appears on the left side of the Login dialog by default.
  • To update (edit) a site: Click on the site name in the list to select it. Then, click the Edit button (sometimes labeled as “Edit” or represented by a pencil icon) to open the site’s settings and make changes.
  • If you want to add a new site, click the New Site button at the bottom of the list.

If you do not see the list, make sure you are on the Login dialog, which is the initial screen when you launch WinSCP. If you are already logged in to a site, you can return to the Login dialog by selecting Session > New Session from the menu.

Summary of what to click:

  • Open WinSCP (the Login dialog appears)
  • Click on a site in the list (left side)
  • Click Edit to update the site’s settings

The sites list is always visible on the Login dialog, and you do not need to navigate through menus to find it.

When you are already logged in to a session in WinSCP and want to see the sites list to update or open another site, you can do the following:

  • Go to the menu Tabs > Sites. This will open the Login dialog showing your saved sites list, allowing you to select or edit sites.
  • Alternatively, you can open a new session tab by selecting Tabs > New Tab. This also opens the Login dialog with the sites list.
  • If you want to edit a site, after opening the Login dialog via Tabs > Sites, select the site and click Edit.

If you close all your open sessions, WinSCP automatically returns to the Login dialog with the sites list visible by default.

So, to summarize, when logged in, click Tabs on the menu bar, then choose Sites to see the sites list and update a site from there.
