Adding a Watermark Across an Entire Video in Shotcut

To add a simple text watermark across your entire video in Shotcut, follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open Shotcut and Import Your Video
    • Launch Shotcut.
    • Click File > Open File and select your video.
    • Drag your video from the preview pane to the timeline.
  2. Select the Video Clip
    • Click on the video clip in the timeline to highlight it (a red border will appear).
  3. Open the Filters Panel
    • With your video clip selected, go to the Filters panel (usually on the right or accessible via the top menu).
    • Click the + (plus) button to add a new filter.
  4. Add a Text Filter
    • In the filter search box, type “text”.
    • Choose either Text: Simple (for basic text) or Text: Rich (for more formatting options like alignment, outline, and shadow).
    • Click to add your chosen text filter.
  5. Enter and Customize Your Watermark Text
    • In the filter’s properties, type your desired watermark text (e.g., your name or brand).
    • Adjust the fontsize, and color as needed.
    • Use the position sliders or drag the text box in the preview window to move the watermark to your preferred location (commonly a corner or center).
    • If you want the watermark to be less intrusive, lower the opacity (if available in the filter settings).
  6. Ensure the Watermark Covers the Entire Video
    • By default, the text filter applies to the entire selected clip. If your video is split into multiple clips, repeat these steps for each clip or merge them first.
  7. Preview and Export
    • Play back the video in Shotcut to confirm the watermark appears as desired throughout.
    • Click Export at the top to render and save your watermarked video.

Tips:

  • For a semi-transparent watermark, look for an Opacity option within the text filter or add an Opacity filter if needed.
  • If you want more advanced watermarking (like repeating text across the screen), you’d need to create a custom image with repeated text and overlay it as an image watermark.

This method uses only built-in Shotcut features and works for all recent versions
